OUR HERITAGE
DNVPS tested the first ever bunker fuel sample taken from the M/S Mosbrook on 18.11.80 in the port of Bremerhaven, creating Fuel Quality Testing (FQT). At that time VPS was the laboratory testing and advisory arm of Det Norske Veritas (DNV) the Norwegian classification organisation. In 2013 the entire DNVPS bunker fuel quality testing and bunker quantity survey business was carved out from DNV and developed as a standalone business renamed as Veritas Petroleum Services (VPS).
BUNKER FUEL QUALITY TESTING
Today, we operate the largest global network of laboratories dedicated to testing fuel and oils for the maritime sector from more than 200 ports worldwide. We determine bunker fuel quality using the ISO8217 marine fuel specification standard and check compliance with IMO environmental regulations and SOLAS safety requirements. We use our experience to provide bespoke tests over and above the base standard to deliver additional protection to the vessel, crew and the environment. Our experts combine chemistry and engineering knowledge to provide technical advice for optimal operational performance, reducing costs and environmental emissions on every voyage.
BUNKER QUANTITY SURVEYS
VPS provides Bunker Quantity Surveys (BQS) to confirm the correct amount of fuel has been delivered during bunkering and that samples are correctly obtained. Our expertise extends to Remaining On-Board Surveys (ROB), On/Off-Hire, Sludge Surveys and Mass Flow Meter (MFM) Surveys. We provide a comprehensive report of the delivered quantity in compliance with MARPOL Annex VI and the Singapore SS:600 standard.
NON-MARINE TESTING
We also provide fuel and oil testing to other sectors including the power and renewables. We test a variety of fluids including insulating oils, hydraulic oils, gearbox oils, lubricating oils and advise on performance and regulatory compliance. Our advice is based on assessment against technical and environmental standards, including as an example the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants for transformer oils.
We protect the environment by helping our customers to reduce their environmental footprint, contributing towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agreed by the United Nations as below:
