OUR HERITAGE

DNVPS tested the first ever bunker fuel sample taken from the M/S Mosbrook on 18.11.80 in the port of Bremerhaven, creating Fuel Quality Testing (FQT). At that time VPS was the laboratory testing and advisory arm of Det Norske Veritas (DNV) the Norwegian classification organisation. In 2013 the entire DNVPS bunker fuel quality testing and bunker quantity survey business was carved out from DNV and developed as a standalone business renamed as Veritas Petroleum Services (VPS).

BUNKER FUEL QUALITY TESTING

Protecting Your Fleet with Trusted Fuel Insights

The value of marine fuel quality testing (FQT) cannot be under estimated, with the protection of the vessel, its crew and the environment, being its key drivers. Asset protection is a fundamental step in ensuring minimal maintenance or breakdown costs, improved operational efficiency, whilst improving crew health & safety and achieving legislative compliance, all of which can protect your reputation.

VPS, as the world’s leading marine fuel testing company supports the global maritime industry across more than 200 ports via our global network of laboratories dedicated to testing fuels and oils. We determine bunker fuel quality using the ISO8217 marine fuel specification standard and check compliance with IMO environmental regulations and SOLAS safety requirements.

Vessels, crew and the environment, all benefit from our experience and innovations in developing and delivering bespoke tests which provide additional protection over and above the base standard.

Our experts combine chemistry and engineering knowledge to provide technical advice for optimal operational performance, reducing costs and environmental emissions on every voyage.

BUNKER QUANTITY SURVEYS

Do You Really Know if  Your Vessel Receives Exactly What You’ve Paid For ?

Marine bunker fuel purchases are mostly made between a vessel operator and a fuel supplier, whilst the vessel is in a port hundreds, or thousands, of miles away from its company offices. Whilst each bunker delivery has an average cost of $1million, the purchaser is not present when the fuel is delivered to the ship. For this reason, the best mitigation strategy is the employment of an independent Bunker Quantity Surveyor, to ensure the correct amount of fuel is delivered to the vessel, in line with the contractual supply agreement.

As the pioneers of the Bunker Quantity Survey (BQS) service back in 1987, VPS have performed almost 200,000 surveys across the world’s ports, using knowledgeable, impartial, independent Surveyors, who carry out their work according to the detailed VPS Code of Practice.  VPS provides a range of Bunker Quantity Surveys (BQS) services to confirm the correct amount of fuel has been delivered during bunkering, that samples are correctly obtained and provide information as to the quantity of fuel remaining onboard.

NON-MARINE TESTING

Turning Oil Data Into Smarter, Safer Decisions

The power and renewables sectors also benefit from VPS testing and advisory services. Our testing of a variety of fluids including insulating oils, hydraulic oils, gearbox oils, lubricating oils and advice on performance and regulatory compliance, safeguards assets, people and the environment, whilst reducing downtime and costs.

Our advice is based on assessments against technical and environmental standards, including as an example the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants for transformer oils.

We protect the environment by helping our customers to reduce their environmental footprint, contributing towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agreed by the United Nations as below.
