e have unparalleled experience in detecting microbial damage of distillate fuels and providing advice regarding courses of action in preventing such contamination.

There are many types of microbial contamination: Bacterial, Yeast, Fungal & Mould. These contaminants can lead to filter blocking, engine blackout, corrosive damage, blocking fuel lines and excessive wear.

Microbial growth can occur in fuel tanks, stern tubes, bilges and ballast water.

Bacteria survive and grow due to the presence of water and at the interface between water & fuel in warm conditions. Therefore maintaining a water-free environment and reducing the level of any Fatty Acid Methyl Esters (FAME), are key considerations in reducing or eliminating microbial growth.
